Euromos Ancient City is located 12 kilometers away from Milas district in Muğla. It is one of the significant centers of the Carian period, featuring the Temple of Zeus Lepsynos.

The excavation director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abuzer Kızıl, a faculty member of the Department of Archaeology at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, told AA reporter that they have been working on the agora, Roman bath, and the Euromos Theatre this year.

Kızıl stated that one of the most important areas of focus is the theatre, emphasizing that nearly all sections of the theatre will be uncovered and made accessible for visitors to explore comfortably.

The Hellenistic period theatre has a capacity of 2,500 seats. A noble seat was previously discovered during test excavations at the theatre, and it is currently displayed at the Milas Museum.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kızıl expressed that they expect to obtain significant data from the ongoing work at the theatre, hoping to find an altar in the center of the orchestra or at the front of the steps, as well as the discovery of masks.

Kızıl stated, “The upper tier steps of the theatre are preserved, although some have shifted. The sections that are buried under the ground are in better condition. The seating rows in the middle section are missing, and we are completing those areas. We are arranging it as it was in ancient times. Later, we will remove all the seating steps from the upper tier and replace them using ancient techniques. After that, we will conduct excavation work in the orchestra and stage areas.”
