Shocking Claim at the Historical Eflatunpınar Hittite Water Monument: Sewage Water Mixed In, Thousands of Visitors at Risk!
A shocking claim has caused great concern in the region surrounding the 800-year-old Eflatunpınar Hittite Water Monument in Beyşehir district of Konya, a site that dazzles with its history: sewage water has allegedly mixed with the monument’s water source. It is stated that the monument, which hosts thousands of visitors due to the belief that its water is healing, poses a serious health threat with this grave allegation.
The Eflatunpınar Hittite Water Monument is located on the western side of Lake Beyşehir, at the foothills of an extinct volcanic mountain. It is believed that the Eflatunpınar Water Monument, dating back to the Hittite period, belongs to the era of the Great King IV. Tuthaliya in the 13th century BC. The monument attracts attention with its god and goddess figures carved on stone blocks. This historical structure, thought to be where rituals related to water cults were performed, continues to be a magnet for visitors today with its natural beauty and mystical atmosphere. The centuries-old belief that its water is healing has made it a unique center of attraction.
The Eflatunpınar Hittite Water Monument was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List in 2014.

However, a terrible allegation has now been made regarding the water source of this historical and natural heritage. Ramazan Toptaş, a retired agricultural engineer living in the region, claimed that there might be leakage from the septic tank of Sadıkhacı Village, located approximately 2 kilometers from the source of Eflatunpınar’s water. Toptaş emphasized that this situation seriously threatens the health of thousands of people who drink water from the monument.
“Those Who Go to Eflatunpınar for Healing Face the Risk of Illness”
In his statement to BBN regarding the issue, Toptaş said, “The water of Eflatunpınar has been known as healing for centuries, and people flock here for this very reason. However, there is now a possibility that sewage water is mixing with this water source. Wastewater leaking from the septic tanks in Sadıkhacı Village can reach the source of Eflatunpınar along with the groundwater.”

E. Coli Danger: Is an Epidemic on the Horizon?
Stating that one of the biggest dangers that could arise if sewage water mixes with drinking water is E. coli, Ramazan Toptaş said, “If the E. coli microbe, which is usually seen in humans when feces mix with drinking water, is found in large quantities in the water, it could lead to an epidemic in the region.” Toptaş called on the authorities, saying, “Samples should be taken immediately from the water of Eflatunpınar, and the necessary analyses should be done as soon as possible. Human health should not be neglected this much.”
How the authorities will find a solution to this grave allegation and how the health of thousands of people visiting Eflatunpınar will be protected remains a matter of curiosity. Local residents and visitors expect an immediate statement and solution from the authorities regarding the issue.
