A Roman statue of a woman was found during excavations in the ancient city of Blaundos, located within the borders of Ulubey district of Uşak province in the Aegean Region of Türkiye.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Roman-era female statue was unearthed in the western part of the Temple of Ceres (Demeter).
The statue, which was found missing its head, was taken into restoration works by Uşak Museum Directorate.
Uşak Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Sabri Ceylan said, “The statue of a woman was unearthed from a depth of about 1.5 meters. The statue, which has no head and arms, is dated to the early Roman period. The 190 centimeter tall statue was taken under protection at the Uşak Archeology Museum.”
“We will exhibit the statue in Uşak Archaeology Museum after the restoration work is completed by our museum directorate and ministry experts. We can say that the restoration will be completed within an average of 5-6 months and the statue will start to be exhibited.”
Excavations in the ancient city of Blaundos have been ongoing since 2018 under the direction of Uşak Archaeology Museum.
