Restoration completed at Divriği Great Mosque and Darüşşifa

The restoration works carried out by the General Directorate of Foundations in Divriği Great Mosque and Darüşşifa, which is included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, have been completed.

Divriği Great Mosque and Darüşşifa (English: Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital) is a 13th century historical complex located in the Divriği district of Sivas. It was built between 1228-1229 by Ahmet Shah, the founder of the Mengücekliler state, and his wife Melike Turan Melek.

The mosque is a rectangular building with a single dome. Darüşşifa is an institution where medical education and health services are provided. It has two floors and each floor has revolutions and rooms.

Divriği Great Mosque has the most beautiful examples of stone carving. Especially the crown gates and minaret honors are quite spectacular.

It is described as the “Al Hamra of Anatolia” by European scientists because it resembles the Al Hamra Palace, one of the most important works of Islamic architecture in Granada, Spain.

In the restoration works of the 800-year-old historical Divriği Great Mosque and Darüşşifa, which was started in 2015, processes such as roof replacement, laser cleaning, injection system, reinforcement work were carried out.
