Turkish gendarmerie seizes Roman tombstones and columns

Türkiye’s recent successful efforts to prevent the smuggling of historical artifacts abroad continue.

Recently, an operation was organized by Kocaeli Provincial Gendarmerie Command upon a tip-off that historical artifacts would be smuggled abroad.

In the operation organized in a house, tombstones and columns thought to be from the Roman period were seized. 1 suspect was also detained.

The gravestones and columns thought to belong to the Roman period were handed over to the Kocaeli Archaeology Museum.
