Shepherds discovered a cave with stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years

Shepherds discovered a new cave with stalactites and stalagmites formed ‘drop by drop’ over millions of years by water mixed with magnesium and calcium.

The discovered cave is located within the borders of Gümüşkaşık village in the Gerger district of Adıyaman in southeastern Türkiye.

The cave with stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years is about 40 meters long, 20 meters wide and 15 meters high.

In the cave, the entrance of which is about 4×4 in size and can be entered with difficulty, a cave column with a diameter of 3 meters and a length of 10 meters dazzles with its size and beauty.

Stalactite and stalagmite formation continues in the cave where water droplets are still active.

Adıyaman Museum Director Mehmet Alkan said, “We saw stalactites and stalagmites formed as a result of water droplets dripping. We also saw columns (columns) as a result of the combination of stalactites and stalagmites. The height of this column is about 10 meters and its diameter is around 3 meters. Nature lovers here should especially come and see this cave. Because it is both cooler than outside and these stalactites and stalagmites create a magnificent view.”

Shepherd Recep Kılınç, who discovered the cave, said, “While grazing animals, I realized that there was an entrance to a cave. I went in, and then I came across columns. Columns appeared. I informed the museum and asked them to come and see it. They came and looked at it, thank you.”
