In Savatra Ancient City, an altar dating back 1800 years and adorned with soldier, banner, and a victory wreath has been uncovered.

In the ongoing excavations at the ancient city of Savatra in Konya, a 1800-year-old victory wreath along with an altar adorned with depictions of soldiers and banners has been discovered.

Savatra is a two-thousand-year-old ancient Roman city located in the Yağlıbayat District of Karatay, Konya.

In Savatra Ancient City, an altar dating back 1800 years and adorned with soldier, banner, and a victory wreath has been uncovered.

The announcement made on the social media account of the Directorate of Excavations and Research of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism states, “In our excavations at Savatra Ancient City in Konya-Karatay-Yağlıbayat, a 2nd-3rd-century altar adorned with a victory wreath, soldiers, and banners on three sides has been unearthed.”

The excavations at Savatra Ancient City are ongoing under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Işık from Selçuk University’s Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration.

It has been stated that after maintenance and restoration work, the altar will be moved to the Konya Archaeology Museum for exhibition.
