A new project will revitalize an ancient grape processing facility that is 1800 years old at the Perre Ancient City in Adıyaman. This city is one of the five major cities of the Kingdom of Commagene.

The Kingdom of Commagene was a Hellenistic-Persian kingdom that ruled from 163 BC to 72 AD. It is famous for its rich cultural heritage and impressive monuments. Commagene featured a unique culture that blended Persian, Greek, and local influences. This diversity is clear in its art, religion, and architecture. In this region, people of different faiths lived together, worshipping Greek gods like Zeus, Apollo, and Artemis, as well as local and Persian deities.

The Adıyaman Governorship’s Special Administration supports the revitalization project with its budget. The goal is to merge ancient production methods with modern technology.

Tourists, both domestic and foreign, will have the chance to see the lever press systems and wine production techniques used 1800 years ago in action.

Governor Osman Varol told an AA reporter that the Perre Ancient City has significant tourism potential. He also mentioned that active excavation work is ongoing in the area. Varol explained that various institutions under the governorship will help revitalize the ancient grape processing facility, which once served as a wine production workshop.

This site will use tools from that era,” Varol said. “Visitors will experience how people produced wine back then through a reenactment. The revitalization consists of four stages. Our contractor is currently working on this project, and our team is overseeing the efforts with guidance from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.”
