Istanbul Bilgi University Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering students reconstructed the ancient city of Pergamon (Turkish Bergama) in digital environment.

According to the statement made by the university, Kaan Gökdere and Mert Mengilli, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Denker, designed the historical and cultural richness of Pergamon in 3D in digital environment.

Within the scope of the project, the historical texture and architectural structure of Pergamon was researched to the finest detail and a digital model was created with the data obtained.

Prof. Dr. Denker, who was quoted in the statement, stated that they aimed to envision the ancient cities as they were the day they were first built, and to meticulously recreate the splendor of the Hellenistic age in the digital environment, and gave the following information:

“The main goal of this project was to digitally recreate ancient cities in their original form based on existing historical data. Our students Kaan and Mert created detailed 3D models of the ancient city of Pergamon based on archaeological and historical data. This method enables historical information to be visually more understandable and transferred to the future. These models, which allow us to better understand the architectural structure and daily life of the city, offer new opportunities for the tourism sector as well as being an important resource for digital reconstruction, archaeologists and historians.”

Stating that as Istanbul Bilgi University, they will continue to contribute to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage through digital reconstruction projects of ancient cities, Denker said, “These projects, which bring history and technology together, play an important role in carrying the traces of the past to the modern world. In addition, our university supports students to develop both technical and academic skills with such projects.”
